Another minor update for the Index Checker

Filed under: Macros & Scripting — macroking @ 9:22 pm

I found that on certain computers, the script ran a bit too fast and could blow up, so… I have slowed it down ever so slightly.

That’s what I get for being a “speed freak” :)

Version 1.3.1 available here

Exciting freebie…

I’ve been waiting very very impatiently for this for a few weeks, and JUST got the email about it a moment ago. I have not even launched it yet to try it myself, I wanted to get it posted immediately!

What am I talking about? Well, here it is straight from the horse’s mouth:

Free webmaster tools - A 3-IN-1 tool that will confidentially store your sites’ login info, monitor all your indexed web pages for unlimited sites, including a free reminder function you can use to track any number of things.

Well, THAT was fun!

Boy what an adventure…

I tried to move this blog to a different account, and unfortunately it went very, very bad. SQL can be an ugly beast! I managed to get everything back up again after Tykoon in the Traffic Equalizer forum pointed me to this awesome WordPress resource. Nothing was lost at all, however during the move there was some DNS craziness that had to sort itself out. It seems to have done so now, so The Macro King is back!

ANOTHER update to the Index Checker script??

Filed under: Macros & Scripting — macroking @ 11:56 am

Yes, that’s right, I just can’t leave anything alone. Gotta make it better, faster, cleaner, smarter… we have the technology, we can rebuild it!

So, here is the version 1.3 of the script.

Read the notes at the top of the file to see what’s changed. Definitely the best edition yet.

Want dynamically generated, keyword-relevant images on your site?

Filed under: Random Goodies — macroking @ 9:29 pm

This is a very cool free script that will go to Google Images and grab pictures that it thinks are related to your keywords, and insert them in your sites. Now, where might one put pictures like that, say, perhaps… NEXT TO YOUR ADSENSE ADS?? Nahhh… that might actually increase CTR and income! :D

Anyway, it’s a cool script. Takes a little tweaking to get it running on every host, and the author will not likely offer a lot of support, but hey it’s free. Also it seems to have trouble right now with dynamically generated sites (since the meta keywords don’t exist at the time the script gets called) but I’m working with some folks to solve that. So…

OK, you can thank me now. ;)

Filed under: Random Goodies — macroking @ 6:23 pm

It has been suggested that I really should have a way for people to thank me for the goodies I’m throwing out into the world. So… see the sidebar at right. I would prefer to have a “Buy Me a Drink” script running, but I want the donations themselves to pay for the mechanism for obtaining said donations. Aren’t circular references fun??

Anyway, the details are on the right. Anything at all is appreciated in the ol’ tip jar. Heck, if a tip I give you makes you an extra $.20 per day for example, throwing a buck or two my way seems reasonable, don’t you think? ;)

JScott’s got a blog…

Filed under: Random Goodies — macroking @ 6:03 pm

OK so he’s undoubtedly got LOTS of blogs, but I mean, a “real” blog. You know, like this one. Uh, yeah. Something like that.

Oh what the hell do I know? Just go check it out. Link is in the sidebar Blogroll, or check it out here.

Post RSS content WITHOUT linking to it!

Filed under: Blog & Site Automation — macroking @ 3:28 pm

If any of you use RSS2Blog (and I know you do! ;) ) then you probably already know about issues like having outbound links in your content postings. There are two problems with this, one is the page rank that you are now potentially giving away to other sites, and the more serious problem is visitors can LEAVE YOUR SITE! Since the goal here is to earn our living, we need to make sure that visitors don’t leave by any means that doesn’t pay us (short of closing their browser or typing in a new address).

Version 1.2 of Site Index Checker is here!

Filed under: Macros & Scripting — macroking @ 12:18 pm

OK, fixed the problems and overall made the script far more robust. It works ligtning fast now and should be happy on both IE and Firefox. If you have any troubles with it, please let me know by leaving a comment!

Get the new script here!

Whoops, bugs in the script…

Filed under: Macros & Scripting — macroking @ 12:46 am

One serious one that will stop it working for anyone, and others that may or may not affect most people.

In the comments of the script (the top part where I explain the versions, etc.) each line is supposed to start with a semicolon ; but one line starts with a colon : and it will cause the script to break. OOOOPS!!

So, feel free to edit that colon into a semicolon.
